IUP has received close to $1 million from the Department of Defense to establish a pilot immersion program for cybersecurity students to develop language foundations and proficiency in Chinese.
IUP received $996,350 from the federal government, and while funding is secured for two years for the project that started in June of this year. IUP could receive another $500,000 for an additional year for the project. The 10-week immersive program will be for 15 students and to qualify, students must be American citizens and have prior education or experience with the Chinese language.
The first program will be held next summer, and participants will receive continuous support for Chinese language learning in the following academic year.
