One of the heroes of the 1960 Pirates World Series winning team, Hal Smith, has passed away at the age of 89.
Smith played two seasons with the Pirates and actually had a home run in the 8th inning of Game Seven of the World Series that tied the game and paved the way for Bill Mazeroski’s game-winner in the 9th inning.
In Smith’s 10 seasons in the major leagues, he had 56 home runs and had a .267 batting average.
