William Michael Matsko, 72, of Indiana passed away at home on November 13, 2023 in Indiana. Born in Windber, PA on February 2, 1951, he was the son of the late Michael and Leona Margo Matsko. He was a wonderful husband and caregiver to his late wife, Judy, who passed away in August 2023.
A graduate of Forest Hills High School in 1969, Bill was a three-sport athlete. He went on to the University of Richmond in Virginia where he played football and was part of the team when they played in the Tangerine Bowl.
Bill married Judy Bowers Mack in 1982 and lived in many different cities: Meridian, MS, Richardson, TX, Wexford, PA, Southlake, TX, New Hope, PA and Phoenix, AZ before returning to Indiana. He was a corporate real estate executive working for many different companies which led them to living in those various places. While located in Texas, Bill and Judy owned a candy store called The Chocolatier.
Regardless where Bill resided, going home always involved spending time with his old friends, playing basketball and enjoying an Em’s Sub. He was the life of every party and was rarely seen without a smile on his face and a drink in his hand.
Bill enjoyed exercising, running, going to camp, traveling and was an avid sports fan. Bill’s love for sports lead to he and Judy being season ticket holders for the Dallas Mavericks, Cowboys, Texas A & M Aggies and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bill could be found every morning working out at the YMCA and spending time in the steam room. He was a big kid at heart and loved playing with his grandchildren/great grandchildren and attending their activities. One of Bill’s favorite things was yearly vacations to the beach with his family.
Bill will be remembered by his sister, Mary Jo Bodenschatz, Johnstown, PA, and her children Melissa Roxby (Justin) and Matthew Bodenschatz (Rhiana) and great nieces and nephews: Cameron and Payton Roxby and Mischa and Camilla Bodenschatz, all of Johnstown, PA. He will also be remembered and greatly missed by his step children: Tammie Mack Brunetta (Tony), Indiana, PA, and Brian Mack (Kathy Mears), Home, PA. Grandchildren: Heather Brunetta Redinger (Todd) and their children Taylor and Mackenzie, Indiana, PA; Benjamin Brunetta (Becca) and their son Tripp, Greenville, PA; Jeffrey Mack (Jenna), Pittsburgh, PA; Kayla Mack Beatty (Andy) and their children Carter, Scarlett and Harper, Johnstown, PA. Bill has touched the lives of so many people and he will be missed by the many friends that were such an important part of his life.
Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Bowers Matsko, and brother-in-law, Paul Bodenschatz.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory, Indiana. His funeral service will be held at 4:00pm with Pastor Jack Lucas officiating.
