Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is expected to present his 2024-25 budget to a joint session of the state house and senate today.
Not much has been revealed about what he’ll be asking for but he has made it clear in other recent talks that funding for higher education, as well as for public schools and public transportation are big concerns.
In interviews on Indiana in the Morning last week, State Representative Joe Pittman said that one of the ways to avoid a prolonged budget impasse like last year is to manage expectations on all fronts, referencing last year’s dispute between Democrats and Republicans on a school voucher proposal. While it was something Shapiro was able to agree with Republicans on, it didn’t go far with his own party.
State Representative Jim Struzzi said one of his concerns was how much money Governor Shapiro wants to spend.
Both Pittman and Struzzi are members of their respective chambers’ Appropriations Committees.
The budget address will be made in the Capitol Rotunda this year as there is some repair work underway in the House Chambers, where the address is usually held.
