Steelers’ rookie minicamp will take place May 10th through the 12th, and the team is busily scooping up players with non-contract invitations. Among those who will reportedly be there is a notable non-rookie, former Raven Anthony Averett. He’s an often-injured cornerback who was a 2018 fourth-round draft pick by Baltimore. He’s played with the Ravens, Raiders, and 49ers and ended last season on the Lions’ practice squad.
Former Steeler defensive back Bryant McFadden, who now works for CBS Sports, wrote on his X account yesterday that the Steelers are on the verge of acquiring a “significant playmaker”, presumably a wide receiver. He didn’t name the player they’re interested in, but shortly after his post, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky said they “should” try to trade for 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The Steelers have long been rumored to be after another 49ers receiver, Brandon Aiyuk.
Big changes are coming to The NFL Today on CBS, but the rumored departure of former Steelers coach Bill Cowher will reportedly not be one of them. Cowher’s contract expired after last season, but The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reports Cowher is staying, and Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms are going. Nate Burleson will be back and former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan will come on board, joined on a part-time basis by JJ Watt. James Brown will remain the host of the show.
