Citing a change in leadership, officials with Pitt announced Monday morning that athletic director Heather Lyke was relieved of her duties.
Lyke came to Pitt in 2017 after a five-year stint with Eastern Michigan. She was rumored to be a leading candidate for the athletic director position at Northwestern University, but she was not selected when they made their decision last week.
She was responsible for hiring and extending men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel and extending football coach Pat Narduzzi through the 2024 season. Lyke also helped reshape the women’s volleyball and soccer programs, both of which made appearances in the NCAA tournament.
University chancellor Joan Gabel said in a statement that she was making a change in Pitt’s athletics program, and that they will undergo a nationwide search for her replacement.
