FOOTBALL
On the final edition of Hawk Talk on U92 radio and Renda Digital TV last night, IUP coach Paul Tortorella recapped a season that was razor close to an appearance in the Atlantic Region playoffs. IUP finished 7-3 on the year and their three losses were by a total of eight points.
Still, Tortorella believes IUP should be preparing for the playoffs this Saturday instead of looking forward to next year, especially since Ashland is in and IUP is out.
IUP linebacker Garrett Cox is the PSAC Defensive Player of the Week for his 11-tackle performance against Shippensburg and kicker Nick Andrasi is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
SOCCER
For the first time in 15 years, IUP is in the field for the Atlantic Region women’s soccer tournament. The Crimson Hawks are the fifth seed and will play number four West Virginia State on the road on Friday.
VOLLEYBALL
IUP middle hitter Lauren Valentic is the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week for her 10-kill, 9-block performance against Clarion last week, which she followed up with 11 kills and 3 blocks against UPJ.
IUP plays Clarion tonight at the KCAC in the PSAC quarterfinals. First serve is at 7 o’clock.
