In 1962 The Beatles recorded their second single “Please Please Me” in 18 takes and “Ask Me Why.”
In 1968 Cream played their farewell concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
In 1990 Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall announced their marriage. The ceremony happened a week earlier in Bali, Indonesia.
In 1994 The Eagles started had a two week run at number one on the U.S. album chart with “Hell Freezes Over.”
In 2000 The Beatles went to number one on the U.S. charts with ‘Beatles 1.’
In 2004 The Raspberries, featuring the four original members of the group, performed for the first time in nearly 30 years to open the new House of Blues club in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 2007 Hawthorne Heights officially cancelled the remaining dates on the band’s tour following the death of guitarist Casey Calvert two days earlier.
In 2008 Maniac Street Preachers guitarist and lyricist Richey Edwards was finally declared dead. Edwards had been missing since 1995, despite alleged sightings all over the world.
In 2011 Gary Glitter’s travel ban expired. The singer had been barred from leaving the UK for three years in 2008, when he arrived back in Britain following his deportation from Vietnam. He was kicked out of Vietnam after serving his prison term after being convicted of child molestation charges.
In 2013 New releases included Black Sabbath’s concert DVD “Gathered in Their Masses” and The Babys’ single “Not Ready to Say Goodbye,” the first song from the group since 1980.
In 2016 Punk memorabilia said to be worth six-million-dollars was set on fire in the middle of the River Thames in London, England. Joe Corre, the son of Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren and fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood, burnt the items on the 40th anniversary of the Sex Pistols debut single.
