In 1969 The Beatles’ “Get Back” hit number one on the UK pop singles chart.
In 1971 The Rolling Stones released the album “Sticky Fingers,” the first on Rolling Stones Records. The cover design was by Andy Warhol.
In 1975 Peter Ham, guitarist and songwriter for Badfinger, hung himself in his London garage. He was reported to be deeply depressed by his recent departure from the group. He was 27.
In 1983 David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” hit number one on the UK albums chart.
In 1988 Iron Maiden’s “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son” hit number one on the UK albums chart.
In 1994 Pink Floyd’s “The Division Bell” hit number one on the albums chart.
In 2001 Phil Collins and wife Orianne became parents to a son, Nicholas Grev Austin.
In 2003 Twisted Sister announced that the group was getting back together for a USO tour of military bases in Korea.
Courtney Love placed an ad in the New York magazine “Village Voice” looking for people to join her new band.

Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack checked himself into a rehab facility in Los Angeles.
In 2005 During an interview on Canada’s CBC radio U2 frontman Bono expressed his disappointment with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin over his inability to live up to a promise to increase his country’s foreign aid to poor nations.
In 2006 Capricorn Records founder Phil Walden died after a long battle with cancer. He was 66.
In 2008 Jane’s Addiction reunited for a performance at the first ever US NME Awards in Los Angeles. The Killers, Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, Vampire Weekend, and Arcade Fire were among the winners at the event.
The Smashing Pumpkins were inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk. Band frontman Billy Corgan and the group’s longtime drummer Jimmy Chamberlin attended the ceremony.
In 2009 Carlos Santana received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in recognition of his contributions in promoting Latin music and bridging the sound with other musical genres. The event was part of the Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards, which took place in Miami Beach, Florida.
In 2011 Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax played a Big Four show at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. It was the first of just two Big Four shows staged in the U.S. During the concert the bands also received plaques in honor of the DVD “The Big Four: Live From Sofia, Bulgaria,” which had been certified double platinum.
In 2012 The Flying Burrito Brothers’ bassist Chris Ethridge passed away at a hospital in Meridian, Mississippi following a seven-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 65.
The Killer’s touring studio saxophonist Tommy” Marth killed himself. He was 33.
