In 1975 Gregg Allman married Cher, four days after her divorce from Sonny Bono was finalized.
In 1977 The first of two Kiss comics from Marvel Comics was released. The red ink used in the printing was said to contain small amounts of blood from each of the band members.
In 1985 John Lennon’s psychedelic, Flower Power-era Rolls Royce was sold for more than two-million-dollars at an auction in New York.
In 1994 Virgin Records shipped The Rolling Stones album “Voodoo Lounge” early after several radio stations began playing bootleg copies.
In 1999 The “Eric Clapton and Friends” benefit concert for Clapton’s rehab center in Antigua took place at Madison Square Garden. Bob Dylan and Sheryl Crow were among the “friends” who participated. The concert raised a million dollars for the center.
In 2000 Nine people were killed and 24 injured during Pearl Jam’s set at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark when the crowed rushed toward the stage. Fans toward the back pushed forward because they couldn’t hear the show.
In 2001 The 30th anniversary of the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison were commemorated at the Gathering of the Vibes festival in Red Hook, New York. Former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek performed and served as emcee, while former Band of Gypsys drummer Buddy Miles also took the stage.
In 2004 David Bowie cancelled the remainder of his European tour as he continued his recovery from what at the time was said to be treatment for a pinched nerve in his shoulder. He’d actually had angioplasty surgery several days earlier to open a blocked artery.
In 2006 The Beatles-based Cirque du Soleil show “LOVE” opened at The Mirage in Las Vegas. Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and Beatle widows Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison were among those who attended the premiere.
President Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi [[ joon-EE-cheer-oh COY-zoo-mee ]] visited Elvis Presley’s Graceland.
In 2008 The Dave Matthews Band’s sax player LeRoi Moore was hospitalized following an ATV accident on his farm in Charlottesville, Virginia. He died of complications from his injuries seven weeks later.
In 2009 Hundreds of people gathered at the Apollo Theater in Harlem New York for day-one of a two-day tribute honoring the late Michael Jackson, who died five days earlier.
In 2011 The Eagles played a free concert in Monaco to launch three days of festivities in conjunction with the wedding or Prince Albert the Second.
In 2012 Queen performed their first show with singer Adam Lambert, at an AIDS benefit in Kiev, Ukraine.
Mick Jagger took part in daughter Jade’s wedding in Britain. The Rolling Stones frontman walked his daughter down the aisle, and performed “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” for the newlyweds’ first dance at the reception.
In 2013 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band returned to headline the UK’s Hard Rock Calling festival, despite having the plug pulled on their set a year earlier. This time the group was able to perform without incident.
