In 1969 John Lennon and Yoko Ono were in a car accident in Scotland. Lennon’s face was cut, and he needed 17 stitches.
In 1997 Blues Traveler released the album “Straight On Till Morning.”
In 1999 Blues Traveler frontman John Popper was hospitalized in Los Angeles for chest pains. He ended up needing an angioplasty, which forced the group to postpone some tour dates.
In 2000 Brownsville Station frontman Michael “Cub” Koda died after a battle with kidney disease. He was 51.
In 2002 The Who’s Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey performed in Los Angeles, marking their first concert following the death of bassist John Entwistle. Entwistle had died four days earlier in Las Vegas.
In 2006 Roger Waters was the headliner on the first night of the Calling Festival in London. The event served as the launch of the Hard Rock Cafe’s 35th anniversary Ambassadors of Rock Tour.
In 2007 Elton John, Rod Stewart, Duran Duran, and Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry and were among the performers at the Concert for Diana, a charity fundraiser in honor of the late Princess of Wales.
Carlos Santana and Yusuf Islam, the singer-songwriter previously known as Cat Stevens, took part in the Challenge Future Conference, an international peace conference in Bochum, Germany.
In 2008 The Dave Matthews Band cancelled their concert in Charlotte, North Carolina because sax player LeRoi Moore was in the hospital recovering from injuries suffered a day earlier in an ATV accident. It was the first scheduled appearance the group had missed in 15 years.

In 2009 The top nine spots on the Billboard Top Pop Catalog Albums chart were occupied by Michael Jackson-related releases. Jackson’s “Number Ones” was at number one with 108-thousand units sold the previous week. Two other albums — “The Essential Michael Jackson” and “Thriller” — also sold more than 100-thousand copies. In total, Jackson sold 415-thousand albums in the week ending on June 28th, 2009 — just three days after he died — which was 40-percent more than his catalog had sold over the previous 25 weeks combined.
Longtime Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham announced that singer John Sykes had left the group. Consequently, the band cancelled the rest of their summer tour.
In 2013 The Pixies announced the addition of bassist Kim Shattuck, who was replacing original band member Kim Deal.
In 2020 Musician Max Crook died at the age of 83. He was featured in the 1991 song “Runaway.”
